《Haikyuu!!》 Final Movie Trailer and Main Visual Released

The anime adaptation of Haikyuu!! is coming to an end, and a new trailer gives viewers a preview of what to expect from the first of two final movies.

The promotional video, released on the TOHO animation YouTube channel, further confirmed that Haikyuu!! Final Part 1, titled The Dumpster Battle (Gomi Suteba no Kessen), will witness the high school boys' volleyball teams from Karasuno High and Nekoma High face off in an official match. The trailer opens with the first meeting of the protagonist Shōyō Hinata and Kenma Kozume (Nekoma's setter), then transitions to scenes from the upcoming movie. Interestingly, the accompanying poster shows Hinata and Kenma confronting each other with combat knives.

Haruichi Furudate's iconic sports manga was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from February 2012 to July 2020. The story revolves around Hinata—a short, orange-haired high school student who dreams of becoming an amazing volleyball player despite his small stature. The series has become one of the cornerstones of the sports subgenre, standing alongside classics like Takehiko Inoue's Slam Dunk and Rumiko Takahashi's Ranma ½. Haikyuu!! is one of the best-selling manga of all time, with over 60 million copies in circulation worldwide. Additionally, the series won the shōnen category at the 61st Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2016.

The Haikyuu!! Final Project aims to complete the anime's narrative; however, at the end of To the Top, there are still over 100 chapters (approximately five full story arcs) of Haruichi Furudate's work that remain unadapted. Therefore, many fans are concerned about the feasibility of covering Haikyuu!!'s vast story with just two movies. Some even believe that these two movies will not actually attempt to complete the manga adaptation; instead, they will make the end of the national tournament the conclusion of the Haikyuu!! anime series. However, the project's announcement trailer did include manga panels from after the time skip arc.

Haruichi Furudate's manga is distributed in North America by VIZ Media, and the anime can be streamed on Crunchyroll. The first Haikyuu!! final movie will premiere in Japan in February 2024.
