What is Pochita's English name? It's not just Pochita, but the gentlest core of "Chainsaw Man"
Pochita: A Deceptively Cute Name
'Chainsaw Man' has captivated the world with its dark, bizarre worldview and unpredictable plot, but amidst this bloodshed and chaos, a cute presence became the warmest core of the story—it is the protagonist Denji's partner, the Chainsaw Demon 'Pochita'. For global fans, its English name 'Pochita' is widely known, but behind this seemingly simple name lies profound meaning and clever character design.

Pochita: A Deceptively Cute Name
The English 'Pochita' is a direct transliteration of the Japanese 'ポチタ'. The name itself is full of design. In Japanese, 'Pochi (ポチ)' is a very common, typical dog name, similar to 'Spot' in English or 'Xiao Hei', 'Xiao Huang' in Chinese, conveying a sense of familiarity and simplicity. Fans also speculate that the name might combine the chainsaw brand 'Makita' with the dog name 'Pochi', cleverly merging its identity and image.
Author Tatsuki Fujimoto deliberately gave this most fearsome demon from hell such an ordinary, cute pet name, creating a huge sense of contrast. When the audience first sees this orange, puppy-like creature with a chainsaw on its head, it's hard to associate it with a terrifying demon, instead feeling the pure camaraderie between it and Denji more strongly.
More Than a Pet: The Bond of Contract and Heart
The relationship between Pochita and Denji began with mutual salvation. At the grave of Denji's father, a severely injured Pochita met the equally lonely and helpless Denji. Denji healed it with his own blood, and from then on, Pochita stayed by his side, becoming his only family.
This relationship reached its climax in the first chapter. When Denji was betrayed and dismembered, Pochita chose to sacrifice itself, merging with Denji's heart and forming a contract with him. Its price was not his soul or lifespan, but the hope that Denji would 'let it see its own dream'. From then on, Pochita was no longer an external pet but became a part of Denji's very life, symbolizing selfless devotion and loyalty.
