One day after school, Maki and Umi go out to town as promised and are having a fun time, when Maki runs into Yuu and Nina, who were hanging out with another group while Umi was away. Maki tries to act normal so that their secret relationship won't be exposed, and Yuu invites him to hang out with them, but... Maki refuses in a strong tone and leaves the scene.

On another day, while Umi and Maki are playing at Maki's house as usual, they fall asleep while absorbed in manga. Maki's mother, Masaki, notices them when she returns home late at night, and despite getting scolded, Umi stays over. Meanwhile, at school, the executive committee members for the upcoming school festival are being decided.

Maki draws a winning lot in the selection of two Cultural Festival executive committee members. Yuu expresses her indignation as classmates treat the remaining slot as a "short straw" in a mean-spirited prank. While the atmosphere is tense, Yuu volunteers, but Umi claims to have drawn the winning lot, calming the situation. However, Umi had actually drawn a losing lot and lied to settle the matter. Later, at Maki's suggestion, the class decides to create empty-can art for the festival, and Maki and Umi begin preparations in cooperation with their classmates.
