"Power, we had a promise, right": Analyzing the Most Tear-Jerking Contract in "Chainsaw Man", the Deep Bond and Future Between Denji and the Blood Devil
In "Chainsaw Man," a work filled with bloodshed, violence, and dark humor, the emotional bonds between characters often erupt with the most touching power at the most unexpected moments. Among them, the relationship between the protagonist Denji and the Blood Devil Power, which evolves from mutual use and constant bickering to ultimately becoming family, has moved countless readers. The climax of all these emotions is condensed into a seemingly plain yet incredibly heavy promise: "Power, we promised, right?" This line is not only Denji's inner monologue but also the driving force that supports him in moving forward through despair.

The Birth of the Contract: The Final Entrustment by the Garbage Bin
To understand the weight of this promise, we must return to the final battle of the "Public Safety Arc" in the first part of "Chainsaw Man." When Denji, on the verge of mental and physical collapse, is cornered by Makima, a miracle occurs. The blood of Power that Denji had previously consumed, responding to Pochita's call, allows Power to briefly revive in her complete form as the "Blood Devil."
Even after reviving, Power remains at her core a cowardly and selfish devil. Faced with Makima's threats and temptations, she once considers betraying Denji. However, memories of her life with Denji and Aki at the Hayakawa residence flood her mind, leading her to ultimately choose to save her former partner. In her final moments, Power uses all her strength to carry Denji away from the battlefield and, beside a filthy garbage bin, makes the most important contract with him.
She gives Denji all of her remaining blood and demands of him: "You must find the Blood Devil, befriend her, and make her return to the way I am now!" This contract, exchanged for Power's life, is her most sincere interpretation of the concept of "friend."
The Weight of the Promise: A Broken Soul Supported by a Single Phrase
Power's first death was a cruel trap set by Makima to break Denji. Her second death, however, was a self-sacrifice made to save Denji. These two deaths completely shattered the "family" that Denji had painstakingly built and, for a time, robbed him of the will to live.
