Akito Oota is the male lead of the story—a hot-blooded young boy whose every emotion shows plainly on his face. Endlessly curious about his classmate Kashida Hiyori's perpetually expressionless demeanor, he repeatedly tries to provoke a reaction through pranks, only to find that his own easy-to-read responses leave him getting outmaneuvered by Kashida instead. Despite viewing himself as her rival, his genuine, unguarded nature and his unconscious fixation on her fill their interactions with both comedy and a hint of something more.
