Aqua was once a divine being overseeing the passage of souls to the afterlife—until she made the fatal mistake of mocking the absurd death of a young man named Kazuma Satou. In his fury, Kazuma dragged her along as his chosen "gift" into a fantasy world, stripping her of her heavenly comfort.
