Bernard Fitcher

Bernard Fitcher is an elderly historian in the Kingdom of Ashberry and the uncle of the Asher brothers, Jeffrey and Edward. Extremely grumpy and particular about his daily routine, he enforces rigid rules regarding his specific tea time and the precise placement of items in his house; this difficult temperament, combined with his tendency to get easily irritated over minor matters when his research stalls, historically caused his past assistants and housekeepers to resign quickly. This cycle ends when he hires Victoria Sellers, whose fluency in multiple languages and superb domestic skills immediately impress him, making her an irreplaceable presence in his household. Despite his eccentric and stubborn exterior, he possesses profound academic knowledge and a kinder, more grandfatherly heart, which develops as he grows deeply fond of Victoria and her adopted daughter, Nonna.
