Emi Handa

Emi is the mother of protagonist Seishu Handa, a woman whose youthful appearance belies her age of over forty. Raised in a calligraphy household, she carries herself with elegance in everyday life — yet beneath that composed exterior lies a fiercely emotional soul who bursts into tears or even resorts to physical outbursts when overwhelmed. Her fierce opposition to Seishu's move to the remote Goto Islands reflects her all-consuming protectiveness. Her boundless affection for both her husband and son makes her one of the series' most endearing and comedic maternal figures.
