Kayla

Kayla is a student at Schulz High School and a classmate of the protagonist Lucy, recognized by her striking long black wavy hair. Early in the story, she goes along with the general crowd in deliberately avoiding Charlie, who is known as an 'Evolved Human.' However, after witnessing the typically aloof Lucy interacting comfortably with Charlie, Kayla begins to reconsider her assumptions and takes the initiative to join their friend group. Her journey reflects how an ordinary high school student can move beyond socially ingrained bias toward genuine understanding and acceptance, making her a meaningful peer companion to both Charlie and Lucy at school.
