Roswaal Mathers

On the surface, Roswaal presents himself as a flamboyant and eccentric noble supporting Emilia's bid for the throne. In reality, he is a centuries-old schemer who has spent over four hundred years meticulously orchestrating events toward a single goal: resurrecting his beloved teacher, Echidna. His true nature is laid bare during the Sanctuary arc in Season 2, where he coldly manipulates Subaru's Return by Death ability as a tool to bend fate to his will, revealing him as the true architect of the unfolding crisis.
