The OST for "Your Name" is something I can listen to a hundred times and never get tired of! RADWIMPS' "Zenzenzense" is still a staple on my playlist even now.
The soundtrack for Bloom Into You is super low-key but incredibly good. Yukari Hashimoto's piano pieces perfectly complement the emotional shifts in the story.
From the perspective of a director's research: A good director must place great importance on the film score. The collaboration between Makoto Shinkai and RADWIMPS is the perfect example.
From a voice actor's perspective: sometimes, when the background music and the voice actor's performance are well-coordinated, the effect is doubled. CLANNAD is the best example of this.
The soundtrack really is the soul of an animation. The emotional impact of the same scene can be ten times greater with or without music. OSTs deserve much more attention.
My number one has to be Hiroyuki Sawano's Attack on Titan OST. You just can't find that kind of epic feel in any other work.
Yuki Kajiura's soundtrack for Fate/Zero is legendary! I get goosebumps whenever I listen to "to the beginning" and "Sword of Promised Victory."
Additional recommendation: "Tank!" from Cowboy Bebop. This Jazz OP is still the coolest piece of anime music to this day.
The BGM in SRW is also amazing! Especially "SKILL" and "Trombe!", they get me so fired up when I'm playing.
Niche recommendation: The OST of Mushishi. It's not your typical anime soundtrack, but every track is incredibly atmospheric. It's perfect for studying or sleeping.
The impact of the soundtrack is even greater when binge-watching anime late at night. Listening to the CLANNAD soundtrack at three in the morning is guaranteed to make you cry your eyes out.
