Went to the Taipei International Comics & Animation Festival last week, comparing it with ACGHK

Just got back from Taipei! I went to the Taipei International Comics & Animation Festival and wanted to compare it with ACGHK:

【Venue】Taipei: World Trade Center, spacious; ACGHK: HKCEC, quite crowded
【Guests】Taipei: Many Japanese guests, high-quality stages; ACGHK: Improved in recent years but still lacking
【Merchandise】Taipei: Wide selection of limited edition items; ACGHK: Poor queue management
【Atmosphere】Taipei: Very relaxed atmosphere; ACGHK: Too crowded and hot
【Price】Taipei: Cheaper tickets; ACGHK: Ticket prices increase every year

ACGHK still has a lot of room for improvement. Has anyone been to anime conventions in other regions?

If there were an anime music live event in Taipei, it would definitely be worth flying over specifically for it. Music events are the weakest part of ACGHK.

It's actually more convenient to go from Yuen Long to Taipei than to Admiralty😂 The atmosphere at the anime convention in Taipei is indeed much better.

Such a detailed comparison! What ACGHK really needs to improve is the queue management and space issues. It's too crowded and too hot.

What about the doujin scene? What is the atmosphere like at doujin events in Taipei? I'd like to know if it's worth going there to set up a booth.

Exhibitions in other regions: Tokyo Comiket is still the top tier. But Taipei is indeed a good example for other regions in Asia.

Hearing your description of Taipei makes me so envious. I've been to ACGHK a few times, and I feel the experience gets worse every year.

The ticket price hike is really infuriating. They increase it every year, but I don't see any improvement in service. Taipei's are much cheaper.

Including airfare and hotel, the cost of going to the Taipei International Comics & Animation Festival is probably about the same as ACGHK. But the experience is much better.

The venue issue is indeed difficult to resolve. However, ACGHK could learn from Taipei's time-slot entry system to reduce crowding.

Regular convention-goers agree: the venue constraints of ACGHK are the biggest problem. The space at the HKCEC is much smaller than the Taipei World Trade Center.

The high quality of the Japanese guests in Taipei is the most attractive part. The guest lineup at ACGHK in recent years is really... *sigh*.

From a cosplayer's perspective: Taipei has much larger spaces for photography. At ACGHK, it's really exhausting trying to find a spot to take photos amidst the crowds.
