Oh my god😭 this new April anime is just so, so, so popular!
First, a little background: Rakugo is the Japanese version of stand-up comedy, similar to a talk show combined with a monologue. One person uses a folding fan and a handkerchief as props to play multiple characters and perform a funny story. This type of performance really tests a Rakugo performer's acting skills and sense of rhythm!
The protagonist, Akane, has been deeply attracted to her father's Rakugo since she was a child and is very proud of it😎, often peeking from outside the door while he practices alone. However, her father was expelled from his master's school during the exam to become a "Shin'uchi" (master rank) and subsequently gave up Rakugo to work at a cement company. When everyone came to congratulate her father, saying "You have a good job now and make more money," only Akane felt heartbroken for him, as if his Rakugo was something shameful! To vent her father's frustration, she resolutely decides to become a "Shin'uchi" and use her talent to prove that her father's Rakugo was not wrong.
After watching two episodes, I can feel the power of the voice actors through the Rakugo performances of the father, Akane, and Kaisei—they are just so, so amazing! The family atmosphere is really great and heartwarming, and Akane's personality is the type that is competitive and persistent; once she sets her mind on something, she sticks to it until the end. It's hard not to love such a passionate "hot-blooded idiot"!
Go for it!
