Introduction / Synopsis

Summary

Day Break Illusion is an original action magical girl TV anime produced by AIC, directed by Keizo Kusakawa with series composition by Michiko Itou, based on an original concept by sole;viola. The story follows Akari Taiyou as she awakens to extraordinary powers and joins forces with Seira Hoshikawa, Luna Tsukuyomi, and Ginka Shirokane to confront a darkness that threatens to consume everything. Far from a conventional magical girl tale, this series dives into morally complex battles and fateful sacrifices that challenge its heroines at every turn. Perfect for fans craving a darker, more emotionally charged take on the genre.

Plot

In a world shaped by ancient and unseen forces, two opposing tarot powers have long determined the fate of all living things. The Diablos Tarot thrives by consuming human souls, spreading misery and destruction across the land, while the Elemental Tarot harnesses the energy of nature itself to stand against this darkness. Maintaining the fragile balance between these forces falls to a chosen few — girls born into 22 specific bloodlines, each destined to wield the Elemental Tarot whether they wish to or not. Drawn into a shadow war hidden from the rest of humanity, these young women carry not only the weight of the world's survival, but also a profound and personal sense of guilt that accompanies their role. Are they protectors of humanity, or something far more complicated? This is the story of girls bound by fate, fighting a battle with no clear end in sight.
