Introduction / Synopsis

Summary

Kino's Journey -the Beautiful World- the Animated Series is a TV anime adaptation of the acclaimed light novel by Keiichi Sigsawa, produced by Lerche and directed by Tomohiko Taguchi. Follow Kino, a young traveler armed with a pair of persuaders, and Hermes, a talking motorrad, as they journey through a mosaic of extraordinary countries—each with its own unique laws, customs, and contradictions. With series composition by Yukié Sugawara, this psychological adventure masterfully weaves fantasy, drama, and slice-of-life storytelling into thought-provoking vignettes about human nature, freedom, and the meaning of beauty in an imperfect world. A must-watch for fans of introspective, philosophical anime.

Plot

In a vast world dotted with countless independent city-states, each nation operates under its own unique customs, laws, and ways of life—some familiar, others utterly foreign. At the center of this journey is Kino, a young and soft-spoken traveler who ventures across this diverse land aboard Hermes, a witty and talkative motorcycle with a personality all his own. Rather than settling down or seeking a place to call home, Kino adheres to a personal rule of never staying in any one country for more than three days before moving on. This self-imposed limit shapes every encounter and observation along the way. Together, Kino and Hermes wander from nation to nation, quietly witnessing the remarkable—and sometimes unsettling—ways that people choose to live. The series is less about action and more about reflection, inviting viewers to ponder the nature of society, freedom, and what it truly means to travel.
