The year 2031 marked a turning point for humanity when the "Quantum Reactor" — an experimental device designed to address the global energy crisis caused by depleting fossil fuels — catastrophically malfunctioned. The resulting explosion, known as the "Shouryuu Crisis", unleashed mysterious energies across the entire planet, triggering devastating environmental changes that brought human civilization to the edge of collapse. From the chaos emerged the "B.R.A.I.", bizarre lifeforms that blur the boundary between biology and machinery. Now, seven years after that fateful incident, Leon Lau — a scientist who was directly involved in the events of the Shouryuu Crisis — lives in the wilderness outside Neo Shouryou, one of the few remaining bastions of human society. Bound together by a "family contract" with Chloe Lau, the two pursue their own independent research into ways of standing against the ever-present threat posed by the B.R.A.I.
