Introduction / Synopsis

Summary

Plastic Memories is an original sci-fi romance TV anime produced by Doga Kobo, directed by Yoshiyuki Fujiwara, with series composition by Naoyuki Hayashi, who also serves as the original creator. Set in a near-future world, the story follows Tsukasa Mizugaki as he joins a corporation responsible for retrieving Giftia—humanoid androids nearing the end of their operational lifespan. Partnered with Isla, Tsukasa navigates heartfelt farewells and the bittersweet nature of fleeting bonds. Blending slice-of-life warmth with emotionally charged drama and speculative science fiction, Plastic Memories offers a deeply moving exploration of memory, loss, and the meaning of time spent together.

Plot

Set in the near future, androids known as Giftia have become a common presence in everyday human society. Created by the technology company SA Corp., Giftia stand apart from all previous android models thanks to their remarkably lifelike emotions and deeply human-like personalities. Yet beneath their warmth lies a critical limitation — each Giftia has a fixed operational lifespan, and allowing one to exceed that limit carries severe consequences. To manage this, SA Corp. established a specialized division called the Terminal Service, whose agents are tasked with locating and retrieving Giftia nearing the end of their service life. Tsukasa Mizugaki, a fresh recruit joining the Terminal Service, is paired with a Giftia named Isla to carry out these delicate retrieval missions. Together, they navigate a world where the line between human and android grows increasingly blurred, encountering a wide range of people — and emotions — along the way.
