Aruko Sakai (also known as "Aruneko") is a close friend of the main character, Yaniko. Although she possesses a diminutive stature with a massive hairdo and is frequently mistaken for an elementary school student, she is actually a university student (who has repeated her academic years multiple times) who refers to herself with the pronoun "boku." Aruko is a severe, hardcore alcoholic who lives in a constant state of intoxication, often drinking straight from alcohol bottles through a tube. If she goes without a drink for even a single hour, her hands shake so violently that they can cause the entire apartment building to vibrate. Although she used to lead a serious life, she discovered the taste of alcohol through a university club and has been hooked ever since. When drunk, she is generally happy and cheerful, but her habit of wandering off to distant places often forces her friends and the landlord to drive around searching for her to bring her back home.
