Despite widespread assumptions that his African background made him a natural-born long-distance runner, he had virtually no competitive athletics experience before joining the team. Recruited by Kaiji Kiyose, he stepped into the world of track and field and faced the quiet burden of racial stereotypes throughout his training. Yet through his remarkable capacity for understanding and his genuine care for those around him, he grew into an irreplaceable cornerstone of the team.
