Tolui

Tolui is the fourth prince of the Mongol Empire and a general who commands the empire's greatest military force, repeatedly leading invasions into Middle Eastern cities. He is the commander responsible for the attack on Tus, the city where the protagonist Sitara lived; in his conquest, he seized the scholarly text "Elements" at the request of his intelligent chief wife, Sorghaghtani Beki. This raid led to the death of Sitara's beloved master, Fatima, prompting Sitara to vow revenge against the Mongol Empire. While Tolui exhibits a ruthless and merciless side on the battlefield—looting without hesitation and executing captives—he possesses a surprising gap in his personality, showing a cheerful, straightforward, and childlike innocence in front of his family, despite having little personal interest in academic pursuits.
