[Controversial] To be fair, the Isekai genre isn't as bad as everyone says
I know this topic will be very controversial, but allow me to say a few fair words.
Isekai anime is often criticized for being formulaic and mindless, but I think there are quite a few masterpieces among them:
- 《Re:Zero》— The psychological portrayal is incredibly deep; how is the protagonist's level of suffering "mindless"?
- 《Mushoku Tensei》— The world-building is comparable to high-fantasy novels.
- 《That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime》— The nation-building aspects have quite a bit of depth.
- 《The Rising of the Shield Hero》— At least the portrayal of adversity in the early stages is very compelling.
The problem isn't that the Isekai premise itself is bad, but that there are too many copycat, low-quality works dragging down the overall reputation. It's as unfair as saying all romance dramas are trash.
Feel free to refute, but please provide reasoning!
