Recommendation for classic anime movies: The Patlabor movie series. Mamoru Oshii's cinematic language is still top-tier even by today's standards.
As a collector of the theatrical versions, I own the BDs for all five of these. The improvement in image quality for the Disappearance BD is the most noticeable.
Additional nomination: Gintama: The Final. The humor of the TV series and the seriousness of the movie form a perfect contrast.
I'd like to add one more: Children of the Sea. There's no TV version, but the animation in the theatrical film is breathtakingly beautiful.
The impact of watching Demon Slayer: Mugen Train in the theater is something the TV version just can't provide. I cried so much during Rengoku's final battle...
The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya definitely makes the list! It perfectly ties up all the foreshadowing from the TV series. A 163-minute masterpiece.
The tank scenes in "Girls und Panzer" really shake your seat when watched on the big screen. This movie was truly made for the cinema.
The soundtracks for theatrical versions are usually more lavish than those of the TV versions. The sound effects on the big screen really make a huge difference.
