Just finished watching 86 -Eighty Six-, and I'm still completely immersed in the lingering emotions of the ending...
This is truly a rare and excellent piece of anti-war animation in recent years. The story follows the young boys and girls of color known as the "86," who are stripped of their names by the Republic and driven to the battlefield to protect a peace built on lies with their lives.
What moved me the most was the bond between Shin and Lena—a connection formed across radio waves, holding onto dignity and kindness amidst despair. The Spearhead Squadron, Undertaker Shin, Handler Lena—every character is so compelling and heartbreaking.
The mecha combat scenes are intense, the plot is painful but profound, the character designs are poignant, and the soundtrack is god-tier (Hiroyuki Sawano is the GOAT).
Lastly, I want to say: May every 86 find their way to a place far away from the flames of war.
