Social difficulties for anime fans—how to find like-minded people?

Since moving to a new area, I haven't met a single anime fan around me. I want to find like-minded people but don't know how to go about it.<br><br>Methods I've tried:<br>- Joining Discord groups (great online, but I want real-life friends)<br>- Going to anime conventions (only happens a few times a year)<br>- Browsing at Sino Centre (but I'm too shy to strike up a conversation)<br><br>How do you all meet anime fan friends in your area? Any recommended social activities or groups?
