One hundred years ago, a catastrophic tectonic disaster reshaped Japan forever—vast stretches of land were swallowed by the sea, transforming the nation into a thriving maritime power. Coastal cities buzz with life, and the ocean trade routes are kept safe by elite naval vessels. In this world, the most admired figures are the Blue Mermaids: exceptional women who dedicate themselves to safeguarding the seas. Dreaming of joining their ranks, young girls across the country set their sights on a future on the water. Among them are childhood friends Akeno Misaki and Moeka China, who reunite at Yokosuka Girls' Marine High School after time spent apart. Surrounded by classmates who share the same ambition, they begin their journey toward becoming full-fledged Blue Mermaids. Akeno takes the helm of the destroyer Harekaze, stepping into the role of captain and forging bonds with her diverse crew as they embark on their training voyage across the open ocean.
