Subaru, who was sent to the underground of the sand dunes due to space distortion caused by Yin Magic, is woken up by Ram. While he manages to reunite with Scarf-Dona and Patrasche, he is separated from Emilia, Rem, Beatrice, and the others. Although he can confirm Rem's safety through the twins' synesthesia, no exit is found nearby. To reunite with everyone, Subaru and his group begin to move through the underground passage, where there is no wind, the temperature is low, and only the sound of footsteps on sand echoes.

Subaru wakes up in the dragon carriage and is informed by Beatrice that everyone has safely regrouped and they have reached the interior of the Pleiades Watchtower. His relief is short-lived, however, as he is greeted by the enthusiastic embrace of Shaula, a girl who claims to be the tower's star keeper and affectionately calls him "Master." Guided by her, the group enters the third floor of the tower, "Taygeta." This location serves as the testing ground to qualify for entry into the tower's primary function—the archives of the Pleiades Library.

By pulling out the sword stuck in the chalk-white domain of the second floor, "Electra," the next "Trial" begins.

As he moves through the underground passages while being pushed to his mental limit, for some reason he still cannot escape from the Watchtower. Changing his objective, Subaru climbs up to the fourth floor with a menacing aura, only to witness an unbearable sight.

Just as he thinks his consciousness has cut out, Meili's corpse lies before him, and the words "Subaru Natsuki was here" are written on his arm. Reading the "Book of the Dead" on behalf of the others, Subaru relives her lonely past and the truth behind her death. By delving too deep, their memories blend together, and the voice of "me" begins to sweetly echo in his mind.
