Recommendations for Ensemble Cast Anime I Love: Everyone is Their Own Protagonist
As an INFP, I absolutely love ensemble cast anime. That feeling where every character has their own story, where everyone is vivid and powerful—it's like being able to see different facets of myself through them.
My Four Favorite Ensemble Anime:
Bungo Stray Dogs
A supernatural battle series where characters are based on famous Japanese literary figures. Every character has a unique personality and backstory; it's not just the main cast, even the villains are written with such depth. Dazai Osamu, Nakahara Chuuya, Akutagawa Ryunosuke... everyone leaves such a strong impression.
Durarara!!
The pinnacle of Ryohgo Narita's ensemble storytelling. Multiple narrative threads intertwine, with each character appearing independent yet linked in a chain. Shizuo's violence, Izaya's cunning, Masaomi's struggles... everyone in Ikebukuro has their own secrets and stories.
Assassination Classroom
What seems like a comedic daily life series is actually a growth story for every student in Class 3-E. Koro-sensei is not just a teacher, but a guide who helps every student find their own path. The ending truly makes you burst into tears.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
Although Tanjiro is the protagonist, the Hashira and the Twelve Kizuki all have complete backstories. The past of every demon is heartbreaking, and the sacrifice of every Hashira is deeply moving. The ensemble writing makes the entire world-building feel so much fuller.
Why do I love ensemble anime?
The greatest charm of ensemble anime is that no one is purely a side character. Every character has their own moment to shine, and everyone is the protagonist in their own story. This feeling that "everyone deserves to be seen" is truly touching.
Although these titles have been out for a while, it doesn't affect the viewing experience at all; I still get excited every time I rewatch them.
Ensemble casts are simply the greatest!!!
