How to distinguish between authentic and bootleg figures? Got scammed last time

Sharing a painful experience... Last month, I bought an "authentic" figure on a certain platform, but after receiving it, I wondered why the quality was so poor. After having it appraised, I found out it was a bootleg (pirated) version 🤦 The characteristics were: - Blurry packaging print - Obvious flaws in the paint job - Burrs/rough edges at the joints - No authentic certification sticker Over $400 gone just like that. I want to ask everyone, what methods do you usually use to distinguish between authentic and bootleg figures? Are there any trustworthy purchasing channels you can recommend? I don't want to get scammed again 😭

1. Check the packaging—genuine products have clear printing, while bootlegs are blurry.
2. Check the authentication sticker—genuine products have a holographic anti-counterfeit sticker.
3. Smell it—bootleg PVC has a pungent odor.
4. Weight—bootlegs are usually lighter.

There is another method: go to MFC (MyFigureCollection) to compare photos. The gap between official photos of authentic figures and the actual product is very small, but bootlegs usually differ significantly from the official photos. This website is very useful.

What a miserable experience... I almost fell for it too before. I've wised up since then and only buy from AmiAmi or shops in Sino Centre that I'm familiar with. It might be a bit more expensive, but at least it's peace of mind.

Adding a supplement: If the price is too low, there must be a problem. If a figure with a market price of $1500 is selling for $500, it is 99% a bootleg. "You get what you pay for" is a golden rule in the figure world.
