I'm a beginner too! I just finished building my first HG. Seeing you build an MG is really encouraging, and I want to challenge myself to do one too.
From a financial perspective: MG kits are about $300-500 each, which is much cheaper than figures. Plus, the building process itself is entertainment.
Building models late at night is the best way to relax. Listening to anime OSTs while building is super therapeutic.
Welcome to the hobby! The MG Freedom 2.0 is a great choice for beginners. For your next kit, I recommend the MG Barbatos; its joint articulation is excellent.
It's absolutely not too late to start at forty! Building models is actually very therapeutic; the process of focusing is very relaxing.
Straight-build with panel lining already looks great! If there are nub marks, just scrape them gently with a hobby knife and then sand them down, and it'll be fine.
If you're looking into spray painting, I suggest starting with spray cans; there's no need to buy an air compressor right away. Spray cans can already achieve pretty good results.
"It's never too late" is so true. I also didn't start building until I was 30, and now I've already built over a hundred kits.
