Episode 10 is truly the benchmark for judging this work as a masterpiece in just one episode. No need for the three-episode rule.
Advice: Don't watch tear-jerkers in public. My rule is to always save tear-jerkers for when I'm at home.
As an expert in tear-jerker anime: Episode 10 is my "tear-jerker test" benchmark. If you don't cry at this episode, you have no heart.
I also encounter this situation when I'm watching anime while cooking. There was one time I got so caught up in the show that I forgot I was cooking because I couldn't stop crying.
I've also tried secretly catching up on it at the office and got caught. My colleagues thought I was losing money on stocks.
It's most dangerous to catch up on anime while taking the MTR! One time I almost started crying while watching "CLANNAD" on the train.
I've been caught by a colleague while practicing cosplay in the locker room. It was even more embarrassing than crying...
Every time I finish a season, I find myself on the verge of crying in public a few times. Controlling one's facial expressions is a skill.
