What was the first anime that got you into the hobby?

I was organizing my collection cabinet recently and saw some old DVDs I bought a long time ago, which suddenly made me think of this question.

I personally got into anime in elementary school after watching Neon Genesis Evangelion. Although I didn't understand the plot at all back then, I just thought the robots fighting the Angels looked super cool. It wasn't until I rewatched it as an adult that I realized it was a work on a completely different level.

Is anyone else an EVA convert? Or are everyone's gateway anime different? I heard that many of the younger generation nowadays started with Demon Slayer or Jujutsu Kaisen?

I'm curious to hear about everyone's journey into anime~

Seriously speaking, your first anime can influence your taste in anime. Those who started with EVA are usually more receptive to stream-of-consciousness works.

EVA+1! I also watched it on TV when I was in elementary school. I really didn't understand it back then, but I thought the robots were so cool XD

I bet a lot of young people nowadays got into anime because of Demon Slayer, right? My nephew is one of them, and he even bought a ton of merch.

My first one was Slam Dunk. Back then, I’d rush home from school every day to watch it, and I even tried to palm a basketball like Rukawa, which ended up with me dropping my phone lol
