Is the Mobile Suit Gundam manga worth reading? How does it differ from the anime?

I've recently started catching up on the manga versions of Gundam and discovered there are quite a few differences compared to the anime. The character development in the manga is deeper in some areas, but the action sequences inevitably lack the impact of the animation.

I especially recommend THE ORIGIN—Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's reinterpretation of the original Gundam story. The artwork is incredibly detailed, and the psychological portrayal of the characters is much more nuanced.

Have any of you fellow Gundam fans read the manga versions? Which do you think is better compared to the anime?

I prefer the sense of immediacy in the animation—the movement and sound effects of the robots can't be experienced in the manga. However, the character depth in THE ORIGIN is indeed better.

From the perspective of ACG history: Manga versions of Gundam actually existed very early on. The initial manga versions differed even more significantly from the anime.

A note from a model kit expert: Many of the MS designs from THE ORIGIN have been released as model kits, and they have subtle differences from the TV version designs—they're awesome.

The Gundam 4-panel comic "Mobile Suit Gundam-san" is super hilarious😂 Putting serious Gundam characters into everyday situations makes me laugh until my stomach hurts.

I recommend the Loum arc of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin! It explains the causes and consequences of the One Year War in great detail.

Has anyone read "Ecole du Ciel"? This Gundam manga is quite obscure, but the story has a lot of depth.

"Thunderbolt" is also highly recommended! Yasuo Ohtagaki's art style is incredibly impactful, and the jazz music elements are very unique.
