Introduction / Synopsis

Summary

SHOSHIMIN: How to Become Ordinary is a modern school-life mystery anime produced by Lapin Track, directed by Mamoru Kanbe, with series composition by Toshiya Ohno. Based on the acclaimed novel series by Honobu Yonezawa, the anime brings a grounded, intellectually engaging approach to everyday mysteries within a contemporary school setting. Starring Yuki Osanai and Jougorou Kobato, this adaptation captures the quiet tension and sharp wit that define Yonezawa's original work, making it a must-watch for fans of cerebral, slice-of-life mystery.

Plot

SHOSHIMIN: How to Become Ordinary follows two high school students who share an unlikely ambition: to live completely unremarkable lives. Jougorou Kobato carries the weight of a painful past tied to something called "wisdom work," an experience that left him yearning for nothing more than a quiet, modest existence. Seeking a fresh start in high school, he strikes a mutual pact with his classmate Yuki Osanai, who harbors the very same wish. Together, they vow to support each other on the path toward becoming perfectly ordinary citizens. Yet despite their best intentions, strange incidents and unexpected troubles seem to follow them wherever they go. No matter how hard Kobato and Osanai try to blend into the background of everyday life, the world around them refuses to stay calm. Can these two ever truly achieve the simple, peaceful lives they so desperately long for?
