Set in a world where humans and supernatural beings coexist, This Monster Wants to Eat Me follows Hinako Yaotose, a young woman living alone by the seaside. Having lost her family long ago, Hinako drifts through her days with little sense of purpose, carrying a quiet emptiness she has never been able to fill. Everything changes when a mermaid named Shiori Oumi appears out of nowhere—rescuing her from a dangerous monster, yet declaring that she intends to devour Hinako herself someday. For now, however, Shiori chooses to remain at Hinako's side as her protector until that moment arrives. Strangely, rather than feeling afraid, Hinako finds herself stirred by an unfamiliar feeling—something resembling hope. The arrival of this otherworldly girl who claims to want to eat her awakens something deep within Hinako that had long gone dormant. The series explores themes of loneliness, longing, and the unexpected bonds that can form between humans and monsters.
