Introduction / Synopsis
Summary
We Rent Tsukumogami is a supernatural comedy TV anime adapted from the novel series by Hatakenaka Megumi. Set in Edo-period Japan, the story follows a rental shop for antique goods, where tsukumogami—spirits that dwell within old objects—come to life alongside their human companions Okou and Seiji. Characters like Notetsu and Satarou bring charm and mystery to each episode, blending slice-of-life warmth with intriguing supernatural puzzles. Produced by Telecom Animation Film, with direction by Murata Masahiko and series composition by Shimoyama Kento, this series offers a beautifully crafted journey into Japanese folklore.
Plot
Set in an era where calamities strike with alarming regularity, the world of this story is one where the supernatural quietly coexists alongside the ordinary. At the heart of it all is Izumoya, a well-loved rental shop run by Okou and Seiji, who serve their neighborhood by lending out all manner of everyday goods. What sets this duo apart from their customers is a rare gift — the ability to perceive tsukumogami, ancient spirits that are born from long-used objects and dwell within seemingly mundane items. As more and more of these spirits find their way into Izumoya's shelves, the little shop becomes an unexpected gathering place for the paranormal. With a steady stream of unsuspecting customers coming and going, and a growing collection of spirit-inhabited wares ready to be lent out, life at Izumoya is anything but uneventful.
