Japan's New Anti-Piracy Law Targets Fansub Groups—What Do You Think?
Japan has amended its copyright law to strengthen the crackdown on overseas fansub groups. Several well-known fansub groups have already announced that they are suspending their activities.
As someone who has been doing subtitle translation for five years, my feelings are very complicated:
Rationally: Copyright protection is correct.
Emotionally: Many works simply don't have official Chinese subtitles.
The problem is: If fansub groups disappear, but the official side doesn't provide sufficient localization services, the audience will ultimately be the ones who suffer.
What do you all think? Do you support the crackdown, or do you feel that fansub groups have value?
