Introduction / Synopsis

Summary

Kiznaiver is an original sci-fi drama TV anime produced by TRIGGER, the acclaimed studio behind some of anime's most visually striking works. When the enigmatic Noriko Sonozaki forces a group of mismatched high schoolers—including the pain-insensitive Katsuhira Agata and the passionate Chidori Takashiro—to share each other's wounds through a mysterious experiment, the bonds between them are tested in ways none of them expected. Directed by Hiroshi Kobayashi and crafted by celebrated screenwriter Mari Okada, who also co-created the original story, Kiznaiver masterfully weaves romance, emotional depth, and speculative science into an unforgettable coming-of-age experience.

Plot

Set in the fictional Japanese coastal city of Sugomori City, a municipality built entirely on reclaimed land that now faces a quiet but steady population decline, Kiznaiver follows Katsuhira Agata, a soft-spoken high school student with an unusual condition: he feels virtually no pain. His unremarkable daily life is abruptly disrupted when his enigmatic classmate Noriko Sonozaki informs him that he has been chosen as a "Kiznaiver." At the heart of the story lies the Kizuna System — an experimental and still-imperfect technology designed with the ambitious goal of achieving world peace by linking people through shared physical suffering. Once connected, any wound experienced by one Kiznaiver is automatically divided and felt by all others in the group. Katsuhira soon finds himself bound together with a handful of classmates who could not be more different from one another in personality, background, and outlook — strangers now forced to literally feel each other's pain.
