Set in a distant future where humanity has spread across the stars, the Human Galactic Alliance wages a relentless war against a terrifying alien species known as the Hideauze. For young soldier Ledo, battle is the only existence he has ever known — alongside his sentient humanoid mech Chamber, fighting is both his purpose and his identity. But when an unexpected spatial anomaly pulls Ledo and Chamber far off course, he awakens from cryogenic sleep to find himself stranded on a world unlike anything in his military records. That world turns out to be Earth — a planet long thought lost, now almost entirely submerged beneath vast oceans. The survivors of this waterlogged civilization live aboard enormous interconnected fleets, diving into the deep to salvage ancient artifacts for their livelihood. Ledo finds himself aboard one such fleet, known as Gargantia, where he crosses paths with Amy, a spirited 15-year-old messenger girl. Surrounded by an unfamiliar culture and the strange concept of peaceful daily life, Ledo must navigate a world where the rules of survival are nothing like the battlefield he once called home.
